The holidays are coming up quick! This marks my 11th Christmas as a mother, a journey that has transformed me in ways I could never have imagined. Life as a mom has a way of breaking down the need for everything to be perfect.

This season I have focused on balancing my blood sugar, while still indulging in my favorite holiday treats! After much experimentation I finally found the perfect gluten-free sugar cookie recipe for Christmas cookies!


As 2023 comes to a close I am excited for all the things the New Year will bring, and to share more about holistic health with other women who are passionate about feeling like their healthiest self!  The gratitude that has filled my heart over the last few weeks with your sweet comments and encouragement on this new path has kept me going when doubt creeps in.

A Beginners Guide to a Healthier YOU!


Seven years ago I decided I had enough of feeling tired and achy, I wanted to be more present for my family. In my teens and early 20’s I had a carefree approach to health, I would indulge on burgers, fries and sugary treats whenever I wanted, the word "nutrition" was a foreign concept to me. But I began to realize the consequences of my former approach, I could no longer ignore the effects it was having on my body and overall wellness. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks (actually, that was just inflammation), prompting a deep desire for change.

Now, I can proudly say that I have dedicated myself to learning, testing, and overcoming my old ways. Three months ago, I embarked on a journey to explore a new career path centered around health and wellness. While my passion for these aspects of life has been personal over the years, I've begun contemplating how I can contribute more meaningfully.

After thorough consideration, research, and much prayer, I took a giant leap of faith to pursue a form of health coaching. And I have written a beginners guide to help anyone who wants to better understand what your body needs, how to manage stress, and avoid toxic chemicals in your food and household products!


From learning about nourishing food choices to incorporating exercise into your daily routine, this guide can be your roadmap to a healthier, happier you.


 

Health And Wellness Tip of the Week


Let's dive into the crucial aspect of balancing blood sugar—a topic I avoided for far too long. Why the hesitation? Because I loved it! I was a sugar addict, and once I indulged, control seemed beyond me. I'd avoid it all week, only to plunge into excess on the weekend, convincing myself that I had "earned it." The aftermath was days of recovery, just in time for the weekend to roll around, creating a vicious cycle.

 

While I firmly believe that sugar plays a significant role in many chronic illnesses today, I've come to understand that outright restriction is not the solution. The problem stems from the rampant overconsumption of sugar, placing our bodies in a perpetual state of stress and inflammation. Consequently, our blood sugar levels spiral out of control, leading to the development of insulin resistance.

 

After years of doing it wrong, I've reached a point where I can savor a dessert without three additional servings. I can enjoy the sweetness of a birthday cake without experiencing the subsequent sugar crash. How? By implementing blood sugar control techniques through my nutrition. It's not about complete sugar restriction but about understanding how to nourish the body to mitigate the impact of stressors, thereby reducing inflammation.
